Specimen Requirements

Before collecting your first SpectraCell test specimen, please call Airborne at (800) 247-2676 or your designated courier service to obtain your local pick up schedule. Specimens must be received at our laboratory within 24 hours of collection. 
FIA™ Tests
1. FASTING IS NOT REQUIRED FOR FIA™ TESTS
2. Collect 20mL of whole blood (two 10mL blue-black CPT tubes)
3. Gently invert the tubes 5 to 6 times to mix the blood thoroughly with the anticoagulant.
4. Label both tubes with the patient’s name and tracking number (peel it from the test requisition form).
5. Place the specimens in the shipping container.
Cardiovascular Tests
If you are drawing specimen for: Apolipoprotein a-1, apolipoprotein b, c-reactive protein, homocysteine, hdl, ldl lipoprotein (a) –
1. FASTING IS REQUIRED 9-12 HOURS PRIOR TO BLOOD COLLECTION
2. Collect 2 mL of serum; blood should be drawn into 1 SST (serum separator tube)
3. Allow the blood to clot for 30 minutes
4. Centrifuge for 20 minutes within 1 hour of collection
5. Transfer the serum into the clear vial provided
6. Plasma or lipemic specimens are not acceptable
7. Label the tube with the patient name and tracking number (found on the test request form), then place the vial in the shipping container
